Application Areas
With the currently supported features FLIDAS supports the following application areas.
Chapter 10 SW / Recorder Developers and Validators
Users:
- Developers of IRIG 106 Chapter 10 software for a commercial market or within their own organization
- Developers of Chapter 10 recorders
- Companies procuring Chapter 10 software or recorders that need to verify the behavior of their procurements
Important features:
- CH10 file format verification ("CH10 validator") with detailed error inspection on GUI
- Browsing within Packets in same sequence as in file
- Decoding of all common and Protocol specific Packet attributes (also as raw data for cross reference)
- Display of whole Packets in a structured hex editor style
- Manipulation of CH10 files within structured hex editor to prepare test data (mainly for injecting specific errors)
- Detecting and locating of Packets with declared error flags and additional error situations
- Robustness to handle a wider range of corrupted files
- For supported protocols even decoding of Packets down to contained Packet entries
- For the future an API for access to Chapter 10 files and GUI integration is planned as a building block for own applications
- Plug-ins for vendor specific extensions are possible and available (like DATaRec4 extension)
- Summarization of communication within one channel to compare it with reference data sources like a METS 231 from Scientific Data Systems LLC
- Convert between CH10 and XML files.
You can convert real files to XML for manipulation or write XML files directly and use them for replay or rapid prototyping before changing your recorder's firmware.
- Check the bit rates created by your recorder or individual Channels.
- Analyze problems in IRIG 106 chapter 7 protocol
Infrequent Users
Users:
- People who only need to analyze Chapter 10 data only infrequently so it does not justify to invest in a full scale solution
- People who must equip their subcontractors without analysis SW with a quick solution to analyze a current problem
- People who must sometimes access Chapter 10 files outside of their regular system environment
Important features:
- Easy to use (users claimed to be able to use it immediately without looking into the manual)
- Installationless. FLIDAS can be prepared to run directly from an USB stick or copied from there to a local system.
- Mobile use possible
- Immediate use through free version possible. It can be upgraded later if the additional features of the commercial version are required.
- Affordable price
- Context sensitive help
- For the functional features supported see the features list
Protocol Level Analysts
Users:
- People interested in physical problems within their digital data buses: Parity errors, equipment not answering etc.
Important features:
- Decoding of the protocol data of the supported Protocols including recognized error flags
- Communication and error summaries for some Protocols
- Export of some of the Protocols to CSV to use in external applications like Excel
- Live display of raw data and protocol information from Data Streams for some data types
Parameter Level Analysts
Users:
- People analyzing the flight data on Parameter level with FLIDAS
Important features:
- Decoding and export and display (tabular and graph) of ARINC 429, MIL-STD 1553B, PCM, Analog, Discretes, CAN bus, recording events and some Ethernet/UDP, UART and NMEA 0183 to the Parameter level
- Possibilities to go down to the Protocol level on detected errors
- Visualize and replay flight routes on built-in and user defined maps
- Live display of decoded Parameters from Data Streams
- Replay of decoded parameters to graphical instrument panels
External Analysts
Users:
- People analyzing the flight data with external software
Important features:
- Export of data to various export formats
- Decoding and export of ARINC 429, MIL-STD 1553B, PCM, Analog, Discretes, CAN bus, recording events and some Ethernet/UDP, UART and NMEA 0183 to the Parameter level
- Live streaming of PCM and UART as UDP stream for external processing
- Export filters
- New export formats can be added on request
- Fits into processes where companies already have analysis software and are just migrating their recorders to chapter 10
FTI Operators
Users:
- People responsible for maintaining FTI
Important features:
- Use live displays to connect to your recorder and calibrate your FTI sensors getting quick feedback on the screen.
- Replay CVSD audio and MPEG video to verify proper operation.
- In case of problems with recorded data: Automatic CH10 file format verification ("CH10 validator") with detailed error inspection on GUI to support error reporting to recorder manufacturer.
- Split CH10 files from independent CH10 multiplexer sources into separate files by their multiplexer source IDs (MSIDs) in order to process them correctly
Users of Other Chapter 10 SW
Users:
- People already using other chapter 10 SW but having problems from time to time so they need another tool for cross reference
Important features:
- In case of problems with recorded data: Automatic CH10 file format verification ("CH10 validator") with detailed error inspection on GUI to support error reporting to recorder manufacturer.
- Robustness to handle a wider range of corrupted files other SW might fail to read
- Easy to use and installationless
- Affordable price
- Free version to start with
- Display of almost all chapter 10 structure relevant information to be able to see the root of a problem
- Split CH10 files from independent CH10 multiplexer sources into separate files by their multiplexer source IDs (MSIDs) in order to process the files with your favorite software
Training on Flight Data Analysis
Users:
- People participating in trainings on IRIG 106 or flight data analysis in general
Important features:
- Easy to use and installationless. Can be provided fully functional on USB stick
- Free version for training. Trainees can take it back to their organization for immediate use
- Display of almost all chapter 10 structure relevant information for teaching about chapter 10
- Display of protocol information for teaching about protocols like MIL-STD 1553B on real examples
Special Requirements
Users:
- Companies in need for a specific feature unavailable on the market
Important features:
- Wider variety of features already available to be reused for new requirements
- Very adaptable to individual requirements through the Eclipse Plug-in concept
- For the future an API for access to Chapter 10 files and GUI integration is planned as a building block for own applications
